Sabriel, by Garth Nix - the first in the old kingdom trilogy. This quartet tells the saga of Amil, the legendary king. The Dalemark Quartet, by Diana Wynne Jones - love this author. Assassin's Apprentice, by Robin Hobb - a very original and engrossing fantasy - the king's illegitimate son is trained as the royal assassin. A princess goes on the run after the death of her father. The Seer and the Sword, by Victoria Hanley - a very fantasy-ish fantasy - if you're looking for something that fits the genre, this is it. Buttercup thinks her love, Wesley, is dead - oh how wrong she is. The book so surpasses the movie it's amazing, considering how good the movie is. The Princess Bride, by William Goldman - you've probably seen this movie. A young man chases after a falling star to give to his love and gets more than he bargained for. Stardust, by Neil Gaiman - you may have seen the movie, and the book is better. Wise Child, by Monica Furlong - a very original fantasy about a young girl who must go live with the witch in town after a terrible even takes place. The Mists of Avalon, by Marion Zimmer Bradley - an amazing retelling of the King Arthur story from the women's point of view. Tells the story of a young prince, his cousin, a witch, a terrible regent, and the witch's girl, who is not even sure if she's human.

Aerin grows up as a princess but her real desire is to fight dragons. The Hero and the Crown by Robin McKinley - a classic Newberry Medal winner. Sing the Four Quarters (and sequels) by Tanya Huff - A singer who works her magic with her voice must stay safe and hidden after she gets pregnant. Start with Alanna: The First Adventure and continue from there. Tamora Pierce's Tortall series - still some of my favorites I first read them in 3rd grade. Start with either Arrows of the Queen, The Oathbound, Magic's Price, or Take a Thief and then continue in whichever trilogy you chose. She's written several novels/trilogies within the series. The Valdemar series by Mercedes Lackey - some of my favorite for a light read. Start with either Dragonflight or Dragonsong and then continue in whichever trilogy you chose. The Dragonriders of Pern series by Anne McCaffrey - classic dragon books. Crown Duel, by Sherwood Smith - Meliara has to run her family's home as the countess and is on the run after defending her keep from enemies. Tells the story of a crown prince forced to apprentice to the jester when his father is removed from the throne.

Mimus, by Lili Thal - Translated from its original German, this is one of the most original medieval fantasy novels I have found lately. Does anyone know of another good series that are similar? I've been at a loss for something to readīooks I can think of you may enjoy.
